The possibility of the working day being made up of just four days a week will be tested in Brazil starting in November.

After being tested in the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain, Australia and other countries, the model will be put into practice in Brazil through a partnership between the consulting firm Reconnect Happiness and the organization 4 Day Week Global.

The model argues that, with the “redesign” of the working day, it is possible to leverage the quality of life of employees and, at the same time, increase the productivity of companies.

The tests in Brazil

Preparation for the experience will begin in Brazil between the months of June and July. At this time, those responsible for the initiative will meet with companies to detail the pilot project, from the methodology to the expected results.

In August, those responsible start registering potential participants for the experience. According to Rivetti, the reception to the initiative has been positive in the country.

“We had a super positive surprise in Brazil. There are several myths in the country, of glamorizing overwork. But we had more than 300 companies interested in this beginning. There is great acceptance by companies, from micro-entrepreneurs to multinationals with thousands of employees”,

indicates.

As of September, quantitative surveys will be carried out to assess the metrics of the companies involved. The data collected at this time (before the start of the experiment) will be compared with numbers measured later, during the implementation and after the pilot.

Also at this time, executives from Reconnect Happiness and 4 Day Week Global will hold classes to guide companies through the redesign process.

In November, the pilot will be put into practice. After three months, data on project performance will be collected. The process comes to an end after six months, when the numbers are measured again.

Renata Rivetti explains that the implementation of the model goes beyond “removing Fridays”, but concerns a redesign of the employees’ journey.

“It is the commitment of the employees to maintain 100% of productivity, receiving 100% of the salary, but in 80% of the time”,

affirm.

international results

The possibility has been tried in several countries around the world, as a way to integrate work into a healthy routine. Last Monday (5), Portugal started to test the model, in a pilot promoted by the government, with 39 companies and 1,000 employees.

The biggest test of 4 Day Week was carried out in the United Kingdom, with 61 companies and 2,900 employees. The experiment has also traveled to the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, among other countries.

Renata Rivetti indicates that, worldwide, the results of the initiative have been positive. In the United Kingdom, 91% of the companies that carried out the pilot show interest in maintaining the four-day journey.

According to experts, revenue increases are also reported, compared to the same period in previous years, and turnover reduction – the turnover rate of workers. In addition, employees indicate a decrease in stress and gains in physical health.

“Looking at global experiences, we had good results for individuals, for companies and for society. We see how much the pilot can transform the job market in a healthier, more humane and productive way”,

points.

benefits of the model

Collaborators who participated in the UK experiments told CNN that the extra day off changed their lives for the better, allowing them to pursue hobbies and recharge.

Jon Leland, director of strategy at Kickstarter, a crowdfunding site that participated in a test in the UK, described the schedule as a “true win-win”referring to benefits for employees and productivity.

Renata Rivetti explains, based on the studies used by the initiative, that employees are normally productive between two and three hours. Furthermore, their journeys are persistently interrupted by distractions.

“The idea of the pilot is for employees to redesign their work to be more productive in less time,”

points.

The positive UK results must be contrasted with other realities. In Spain’s experience, nine out of ten professionals preferred to work four days a week. However, a study by Hays España revealed that only 5% of companies considered implementing reduced working hours.
