Art is the result of a partnership between Águas de Manaus and FAS, and is authored by the artist Denis LDO
Manaus(AM)- The water reservoir at the Coroado roundabout gained an extra color, with the art of the muralist Denis LDO. Last week, the graffiti artist completed a work inspired by the environment and the habits of riverside dwellers in Manaus. A graffiti artist with more than 20 years of career, Denis LDO carried out the intervention at the invitation of Águas de Manaus and the Sustainable Amazon Foundation (FAS). The panel, which is located under the Gilberto Mestrinho Viaduct, was named “Tchibum!”.
“It is a reference to the practice that people from the Amazon have of diving in the river to cool off. Water is the source of life, it quenches our thirst, moves the vegetation and everyone that lives around the ecosystem. Keeping this ecosystem clean is something that everyone should do, and art also has this role, talking about sustainability, how to take care of the planet, and I take that into every panel I do”, he summarizes.
The entire graffiti process lasted four days, and during this period, Denis had the help of his friend Broly, also a muralist with extensive experience in the Amazonian capital. Now, thanks to their work, whoever passes through the roundabout, which is one of the busiest spots in the city, is invited to reflect on the environment and on art itself.
“This is a place that I consider very important, because it is the entrance to the East Zone and is also the path for those who pass by early in the morning to go to the Industrial District. Sometimes people are stressed, overwhelmed and going through the mural leads to a reflection on sustainability and on having more acceptance of graffiti”,
sums up Denis.
Partnership
In addition to the reservoir, Denis is also responsible for the art at the entrance to Beco Nonato, a community on stilts in the south of the Amazonian capital that was the first to receive basic sanitation. At the time, the inspiration was precisely the arrival of water and sewage services at the site.
“Encouraging the art and culture of graffiti is something we are very proud of, and Denis has already become an important partner in this mission to color the city, as the services advance. The Coroado roundabout is at a strategic point in the city and, through it, thousands of people pass daily, so having Denis’ art at that point is something that enhances and draws attention to the reservoir, which is there, guaranteeing water to residents of that region”, highlights the Institutional Relations of Águas de Manaus, Semy Ferraz.
