Volkswagen temporarily suspends production of cars in Brazil

According to the company, the reason is “market stagnation”. The automaker’s decision was announced exactly three weeks after the publication of the provisional measure (MP) that created the discount program for cars of up to R$ 120 thousand. Questioned by g1, the company did not comment on the relationship between the federal government program and its decision-making. Volks informed that the factory in São José dos Pinhais (PR), where the T-Cross is produced, has had a layoff shift (temporary work suspension model) since June 5th of this year, and is expected to last between 2 to 5 months. The other shift of the same unit started the stoppage on Monday (26). Activities will be suspended until Friday (30), on a bank of hours basis. The factory in Taubaté (SP), where the Polo Track and Novo Polo are manufactured, has its two production shifts interrupted this week (from 26 to 30 June), also in an hour bank scheme. The Anchieta unit, in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), where the Novo Virtus, Novo Polo, Nivus and Saveiro are produced, defined a ten-day collective vacation, scheduled for its two production shifts, starting on the 10th of July. According to the company, “all flexibility tools are provided for in the Collective Agreement signed between the Union and Volkswagen employees”.
