Visual artists seek Councilman Peixoto for visibility at the cultural festival “Sou Manaus”

The need for greater exposure is for these artists to have income and work all year round.

Manaus (AM) – Councilor Peixoto (Agir) received this Tuesday (11) at the Manaus City Council (CMM) the CEO of the Official Access Group for Popular Culture (GAO), Dudson Carvalho. At the meeting, the artists’ representative presented GAO’s work and requested support from the parliamentarian so that the group could have a space at the cultural festival “I am Manaus Paço a Passo 2023”to present the works developed by visual artists from the capital.

GAO is composed of more than 40 affiliated institutions, from the most diverse cultural movements, from Afro culture groups to samba schools, and more than 200 artists. Headquartered under the Manôa viaduct, in the north of Manaus, the group’s mission is to provide full assistance to these associations and their members, in addition to bringing knowledge and preparation so that they can participate in public notices, in the decisions of the Public Power and for these artists to have a larger space and be recognized.

According to Dudson Carvalho, today, in the city of Manaus and in the state of Amazonas, there is immense difficulty in identifying these artists and the GAO works to minimize this situation, taking preparation so that they can bring their artwork.

“Our state and capital, as a whole, are recognized as people who produce and are working throughout Brazil and even outside Brazil, but we need to give everyone greater visibility and prepare them all. So the GAO takes this and is precisely looking for a partnership with parliamentarians, so that we can, more quickly, since they have the Paulo Gustavo, Aldir Blanc 2 Laws, which come as public policies and will remain for five years, we need to quickly identify, make an active search and make these people come to a strong core, of representation and with that we can make progress”,

explains.

At today’s meeting, the participation of these artists in “Sou Manaus” was the subject. GAO aims to have a space at the festival that takes place in September, in the center of Manaus. Peixoto, who already supports local culture, especially handicrafts, understands that the request is legitimate and has already contacted the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), so that it receives the Group and evaluates the request of the artists .

“The manauara artist is recognized worldwide and as a supporter of culture, I am very happy to receive this request for support. Artists deserve to be recognized and have space in cultural movements in the city. Today we talked about how we can work on this issue of Sou Manaus, for Manauscult to cover the visual arts. That’s why I called Manauscult now and I managed to get him to go there now, to talk to the board there, so that in this Sou Manaus, which will take place in September, the theme of visual arts is contemplated”,

highlights the councilor.

For the director-president of the institution, the need for greater exposure of these artists is so that they have income and work throughout the year.

“These visual artists work with folklore, with boi-bumbá, with ciranda and other movements, but the rest of the year they produce pictures, handicrafts, miniature art, to survive. We need to show society what they produce, because these groups are often criminalized. Public money is not going to parties, it is being very well spent, in parents of families who continue to work after the parties and it is these people who need support, greater visibility so that we can value these artists”,

says Dudson.

Craftsmanship

Among the Law Projects of his authorship, Peixoto managed to highlight the craftsmen of Manaus. Law n° 2.848 institutes the Handicraft Week and the Urban and Rural Handicraft Week in the official calendar of Manaus, through Peixoto’s proposal, through PL n° 97/2021. The objective is to give prestige to the artisans of the municipality through the establishment of a campaign to value and promote urban and rural crafts, to be held annually in the week of March 19th.
