Vice-president of Eletrobras is denounced in scheme – 06/21/2023 – Panel SA

A complaint filed with the CVM for alleged fraud committed by the Delta Energia Group put the current vice-president of commercialization at Eletrobras, João Carlos de Abreu Guimarães, in an embarrassing situation.

Although it is still in the preliminary phase of investigation by the municipality, the complaint points to evidence of simulated operations that, supposedly, gave gains to two investment funds linked to Delta – and which were backed by operations of purchase and sale of energy in the free market.

At the time, Guimarães was director of Beta, one of the energy trading companies linked to the group, which was the subject of the complaint. Today, the executive takes care of Eletrobras’ energy sales.

The column obtained a copy of the complaint made by a former director of a trader from another economic group involved in the deal. In it, he claims that Delta, through its energy trading companies and third-party companies in financial difficulties, simulated energy purchase and sale operations that were intended to generate gains for two investment funds controlled by Delta.

Beta, managed by Guimarães, was one of the main sellers of the alleged scheme.

When consulted, Delta denies wrongdoing and says the report is a lie. Guimarães and Eletrobras did not respond until the publication of this report. The CVM confirmed that it is analyzing the case.
