Vibrating fans and the best competitors on the field. This is the keynote of the 2023 Bom Gourmet Award, a traditional celebration of Curitiba’s gastronomy, which this year is presented by Gold Food Service. At the same time that it brings together specialists and the public to form an up-to-date guide to places and dishes to try in the capital and surroundings, the Prize once again lists the best in each category. The champion is back!

The competition is organized in stages and phases, all to show market innovations and flavors that always engage and conquer the public. “We are driven by good experiences, which is why we want to form an increasingly complete and broad set of everything that the gastronomic market in Curitiba offers its population and those who are passing through here. For this goal to become a reality, the number of categories has grown and we have several new features”, says Caroline Olinda, head of Good Gourmet.

The revelation of the great champions of Curitiba’s gastronomy takes place on the 28th of August. You can check the result on the Bom Gourmet Award website from 11 pm. Find out below how this year’s awards are organized!

Good Gourmet Committee and special categories

Traditionally, the Bom Gourmet Committee seeks to honor and reward establishments, dishes, professionals and gastronomic initiatives based on the vote of judges recognized as experts in the area. They got together and came up with the champion names in five categories: Novelties, Restauranteur, Sommelier, Honorees of 2023 and To keep an eye on. But the triumphant return of a champion calls for extra doses of emotion. For this reason, the organization presents in 2023 special categories, developed with partners.

The Erasto Gaertner Category, in partnership with the hospital of the same name, had a preparatory period that began in April. Selected chefs from the city were invited to participate in a workshop given by specialists from the hospital and learn how to maximize nutrients during meal preparation. From this learning, they inscribed and defended dishes that unite health and flavor. A judging committee tasted the preparations without knowing who the responsible chef was. At the end of the tasting, they chose the best one taking into account the flavor and compliance with the health proposal.

Composta+ subscribes to the Sustainable Gastronomic Business category, a way of praising enterprises that are concerned with the sustainability linked to their activities. The organization gathered a special group of jurors working in the area of ​​sustainability and engaged in the defense of the environment to evaluate cases suggested by the Paraná section of Abrasel (Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants) and by Sebrae-PR.

HAUS Ambiance

A body of judges selected by the HAUS team, specialists in the field and attentive to market movements, evaluated the architecture and design proposal of the nominees in the Novelties category of the Bom Gourmet Committee to choose the best ambiance among the ten finalists. To reach the verdict, they took into account the execution of the proposal and how the environment proposes to serve the public in terms of functionality, circulation and aesthetics. Dialogue and respect for the architecture of the property, the proper use of design and art pieces, lighting, layout, concept and presentation were outstanding criteria.

The basis of this stage was the opinion and engagement of the public through the internet to elect the great champion in each of the 28 categories, a record number in the history of the award. There were two rounds: in the first, for nominations, readers shared their favorite dishes and establishments on the Prize’s website. In the second, the crowd voted for the favorite among the five that had the most nominations in each category.

  • 274,000 votes for the finalists of the Popular Flavor Stage
  • More than 100,000 nominations in Sabor Popular
  • 250 establishments impacted, including nominees, finalists and winners
  • 20 hours of discussions in the Special Committees

And there was a special category at this stage as well: Gastronomy that Transforms, which was available for the public to vote for one of its five finalists. This is a partnership with Clube da Alice, a way of recognizing how gastronomy changes the lives of women entrepreneurs.

Specialties

For each of the 15 categories in this phase, a body of judges was set up with opinion makers, influencers, bar and restaurant goers and foodies, consumers with a particular interest and experience related to the gastronomic life of the city. The jury indicated places, dishes, professionals and suppliers according to their preferences and, those that were indicated more times, won.
