Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino unveiled the social networking platform’s new logo — a white X on a black background — that will replace the iconic blue bird.

In a tweet this morning (24), Yaccarino announced: “The X is here!”

The way to refer to “tweets” will also be replaced, according to the platform owner, Elon Musk, and the posts will be called “Xs”.

He changed his profile picture to the new logo image and added “X.com” to his Twitter bio.

The entrepreneur wants to create a “super app” called “X”, a new kind of social networking platform that he has been talking about creating for months.

On Sunday (23), the billionaire had stated, through the platform, that he wanted to change the symbol of Twitter. “Soon we will say goodbye to the brand and gradually to all the birds,” he tweeted.

Afterwards, he shared a photo of the new “X” brand projected on the side of Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco, USA.

Musk, who changed the company’s name to X Corp, said the switch “should have been done a long time ago”.

He posted an image of a shimmering “X” on Twitter, and later, in an audio chat on Twitter Spaces, replied “yes” when asked if the Twitter logo would change.

Yaccarino wrote on the platform that the rebrand was an exciting new opportunity.

“Twitter made a huge impression and changed the way we communicate,” she tweeted.

“Now the X goes further, transforming the global town square.”

The bluebird is named Larry, which Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said in 2011 was a tribute to basketball star and Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird.

Twitter’s website says its logo, a blue bird, is “our most recognizable asset”. “That’s why we protect him so much,” he adds.

The company temporarily replaced the logo in April with Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog, helping to boost the cryptocurrency’s market cap, which references a popular Japanese dog meme.

Later, Musk was accused of insider trading by a group of Dogecoin investors, who claimed that he had profited from increasing the value of the cryptocurrency.

Earlier this month, the company came under fire from users and marketers alike when Musk announced there would be a cap on the number of tweets various types of accounts can read per day.

The daily limits contributed to the growth of the competing platform Threads, owned by Meta, which had more than 100 million accounts registered in five days of launch.

The most recent controversy involving Twitter was a lawsuit filed last Tuesday, alleging that the company owes at least $500 million (R$ 2.3 billion) in compensation to former employees.

Since Musk bought the platform, the company has laid off more than half of its workforce.
