Billionaire Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino, executive director of Twitter, unveiled this Monday (24) the new logo of the social network, an “X”. The letter replaces the famous bluebird.
“X is here! Let’s go,” tweeted Lindawho also posted a photo of the logo designed at the company’s San Francisco offices.
Musk changed his profile picture to the company’s new logo, which he described as “minimalist art deco”.
The blue X is already visible to anyone who logs into the network from the computer this Monday.
At 8:20 am, the hashtag “#GoodbyeTwitter” gained prominence on the platform, with several users criticizing the new logo.
The change was announced by Musk this Sunday (23). The billionaire posted an image of a stylized X against an outer space-themed black background and tweeted: “Soon we will say goodbye to the Twitter brand and gradually to all the birds.”
In response to a tweet asking what the tweets would be called under the “X”, Musk replied “x’s”.
The original Twitter logo was designed in 2012 by a three-person team. “The logo was designed to be simple, balanced and legible at very small sizes, almost like a lowercase ‘e’,” wrote Martin Grasser, one of the designers.
Weeks before completing the Twitter acquisition last year, Musk had said buying the company would accelerate his ambition to create an “all-in-one app” called “X” in three to five years.
Musk bought x.com back from PayPal in 2017, claiming it had “sentimental value”. He had co-founded x.com as an online bank in 1999, which later morphed into PayPal.
Although the official Twitter page on the platform has been renamed “X”, the x.com domain is not active.
“X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered around audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, products, services and opportunities,” tweeted Yaccarino Sunday.
Since buying Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion (today about R$210 billion), the billionaire, who also owns Tesla and SpaceX, has promoted changes to the platform.
Twitter limited the number of tweets seen and messages sent per day, restricted access to platform data and removed the free two-factor authentication option via SMS.
In addition, the network began to charge for the blue seal of verification and has limited the sending of messages by those who do not pay the monthly seal.
