Twitter reinstated the blue badge for some media outlets and celebrities on Saturday after removing the blue badge from users who didn’t pay for it, a move disputed by many stakeholders.

Elon Musk, who bought the company at the end of October for US$ 44 billion (R$ 222.1 billion), had promised to get rid of the blue mark that a user obtained after verifying his identity and fulfilling certain conditions.

The company began mass removal of the blue seal on Thursday (21).

To get the blue badge, you need to pay US$ 8 (R$ 40) a month, which allows you to access other benefits of “Twitter Blue”, which include more visibility and fewer ads.

However, less than 5% of the 407,000 verified profiles signed up for the new plan, according to Travis Brown, a software developer who monitors Berlin’s social media platforms.

Musk tweeted on Friday that he was “paying some [assinaturas] personally”.
