Trade balance accumulates surplus of US$ 1.7 billion in January

The Brazilian trade balance accumulates a surplus of US$ 1.7 billion in the month of January, considering the results reached until the second week of the month. Partial data were released on Monday (16) by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC). The trade flow – sum of exports and imports – had an increase of 7.6%, by the daily average in relation to January 2022, reaching US$ 20.2 billion.
According to the ministry, exports grew 16.8%, reaching US$ 11 billion in the accumulated result for the month, while imports in the period decreased 1.6%, reaching US$ 9.2 billion. These percentages consider the daily average of operations.
Until the second week of January, considering exports, the Agriculture sector grew 17.1%, totaling US$ 1.8 billion in foreign sales. Remittances from the Extractive Industry rose 18.9%, reaching US$ 2.4 billion, while the Manufacturing Industry grew 16.1%, reaching US$ 6.6 billion.
In imports, there was growth of 24% in the Agriculture and Livestock sector, which totaled US$ 217 million, and an increase of 5.8% in the Manufacturing Industry, which reached US$ 8.4 billion. Imports from the Extractive Industry sector fell by 46.3%, registering US$ 626 million. All changes are calculated on the daily average and compared against January 2022.
