Among the products marketed based on the film are dolls, jewelry and posters. Aarons’ lawsuit is against Warner Bros. Discovery, New Line Cinemas and Scope Productions. Bonnie Aarons received US$71,500 (about R$357,000) to play the character. The actress’ contract also included a $157,000 bonus (R$784,000), tied to the film’s performance at the box office, as well as a profit margin on merchandise that exploited her character. According to the signed agreement, it would have a proportional participation of 5% to 50% of the gross revenues from the licensing of merchandising rights. The film, which had a budget of R$ 22 million (R$ 109 million), grossed US$ 365 million (R$ 1.8 billion) at the box office. In the complaint, Aarons alleges that the statement sent by Warner presenting her revenue share figures is “inconsistent with the extensive merchandising activity” of her character. She further claims that the spreadsheet with the data contained only a fraction of the known licenses. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Aarons alleges in the suit “breach of contract and violation of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing,” which prohibits actions that would harm either party to an agreement.
