Founder of the largest “hedge fund” in the world, Bridgewater, billionaire American investor Ray Dalio traveled twice to China recently and published an extensive “memo” on Linkedin (reproduced below), about Sino-American relations.
Other platforms echoed excerpts such as “the biggest provocations probably will come from the American side“, around Taiwan; and “in China they believe that some Americans are trying to lure them into a trap (a war) that they want to avoid”.
The Chinese Caixin highlighted another passage, that “USA and China are like two giants fighting 15 centimeters from the edge of a cliff”. To the magazine, he added: “My goal is to increase understanding to help minimize miscalculations.”
He echoed fellow billionaire investor Warren Buffett, who had told CNBC of the US-China “competition” that “you can’t let this get out of hand, you can’t have an accident.”
The Global Times, also from Beijing and linked to the PC, highlighted a conversation by Joseph Nye, from Harvard, with the Chinese “think tank” Center for China and Globalization, to launch his new book “Soft Power and Great-Power Competition “. One passage in particular:
“China is too big for the US to change or control. The US is too big for China to change or control. The only way we can destroy each other’s country or be a threat to each other’s existence is if we make a mistake that leads to war.”
