Tesla is facing a class action lawsuit for invasion of privacy after revelations that its employees internally shared sensitive images taken by cameras installed in the brand’s vehicles.
The electric cars of Elon Musk’s company have multiple sensors, which include cameras, to guide the tools to help with the direction, says the action presented on Friday (7) by Henry Yeh, owner of a Model Y, and that to which the AFP had access this Monday (10).
The document states that company employees accessed these images not with the stated purpose of communicating, offering services and improving vehicle steering systems, but for tasteless and criminal fun and, possibly, people outside the company. The action is based on statements released on Thursday (6) by the Reuters agency.
Company employees disseminated “recordings of customers in private and embarrassing situations, such as, for example, a video of a man completely naked approaching a vehicle, videos of accidents and aggressions on the highway,” he added.
It is also possible to determine where the videos were recorded, which would make it possible to identify the owner of the vehicle, contrary to what the company claims, says the lawsuit.
The plaintiff seeks damages and accuses Tesla of, among other things, invasion of privacy, failure to comply with legislation on consumer rights, breach of contract and negligence.
Sought by the AFP, the company did not respond until the publication of this text.
