Company unveiled plan inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe to tell a single story that unfolds over the course of at least eight, across ten movies and TV. Zoë Kravitz and Robert Pattinson in a scene from ‘Batman’ Disclosure Stories about Batman and his murderous son, a new tale of Superman and Swamp Thing is set to hit the big screen as part of an ambitious 10-year plan to reinvigorate DC Studios under the new owner, Warner Bros Discovery. Despite a rich catalog of characters, from Batman to Wonder Woman, DC’s film and television studio has failed to match Disney’s Marvel blockbuster factory. “DC’s history is very confusing,” said director James Gunn, who helmed three “Guardians of the Galaxy” films for Marvel and was tapped last year for the DC Studios revamp. “Let’s promise that everything from our first project will be unified.” Gunn and DC Studios Co-President Peter Safran this week revealed a plan inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe to tell a single story that unfolds over eight to 10 years, across 10 future film and TV projects. The first phase, “Gods and Monsters”, uses some of the most recognizable superheroes from the DC Universe to introduce audiences to a new generation of characters. Gunn said he worked with a team of five writers to craft a connected story. At the same time, the studio will be releasing stories that are outside of this core narrative of the DC Universe, dubbed DC Elseworlds, as with the comics. One example is “Joker 2: Folie a Deux,” the sequel to the 2019 Academy Award-nominated drama.
