And, although she does not confirm that the role is already hers, Barbara has been appointed as the protagonist of “Terra Vermelha”, a plot by Walcyr Carrasco expected to replace “Travessia” in prime time on TV Globo.

— I took the test, like other actresses did, I know I did very well, but I still haven’t had the official result. Since it’s been a while, I’m thinking it even went up on the roof… But I think it’s great that they’re speculating, it’s better for me (laughs) — the 33-year-old woman from Rio dismisses it, confirming her expectations for her outstanding work: — Being the protagonist of Globo’s nine o’clock soap opera is certainly a dreamy place, but one with little opportunity. Until then, the only black actress who reached that top was Taís Araujo, with one of Helenas by Manoel Carlos. Changing the synopsis of “Terra Vermelha” to give space and voice to yet another black actress represents a lot. I am very grateful for the possibility that this could happen to me. People understood who she really was when Débora approached Humberto (Fabio Assunção), at Rhodes, and stated that she wanted to put the company as a front for money laundering. — I bought three high-heeled shoes that I could wear every day to gain Deborah’s posture. Normally, I wear sneakers, boots, more practical things. — Despite knowing that I am a beautiful and sensual woman, I am not seduced all the time in my personal life. Since I was a little girl, like most girls, I was taught by my mother and father to have behaviors that hindered my freedom, like “sit with your legs closed”, “don’t let your panties show”. I remember that when I was 12 I already had visible breasts and ass, but I was still a girl. And I hid myself so that, in the streets, no man would mess with me. I wore my brother’s baggy T-shirt and longer shorts to avoid harassment. I was angry about it! As a woman, I always avoided deep necklines. It became a style. — I worked out three times a week, I went to six, with discipline. This commitment to myself made me more comfortable to embody a femme fatale, with tight clothes, arms out… I didn’t lose weight, I just traded fat for muscle. I still weigh the same 80kg at 1.74m tall. It’s not a skinny body. Anyone who sees me realizes that I’m a big woman, but that I train — she observes, who eats rice, beans, vegetables and protein daily: — With me, there’s no such thing as just salad. I don’t have any restrictions, I just avoid pizza, which is my passion. Before, I ate every weekend, now it’s every 15 days. But tomorrow I’m going to a kid’s birthday, and I love cake with filling, frosting. I’m going to eat! I don’t deprive myself of anything. Also because I know that what I work out during the week allows me these escapes.

Self-esteem and acceptance of one’s own body have evolved over the years.

— I’ve always had a body complex. I still have a little. It’s a process, a daily achievement. I’ve always been a thin woman, but in the Brazilian style, with wide hips. So, somehow, I was rejected by the thinness industry. As a teenager, I wanted to fit the mold. There came a time when I only wore pants, I didn’t want to show my thick thighs. After we become adults and mature, we realize that it is a big nonsense, right? The important thing is to be well with yourself – reflects Barbara.

In the same period, the carioca started to straighten her hair, naturally curly:

— I did straightening from 14 to 17 years old. I joke saying that I started doing hair transition at a time when that expression didn’t even exist. Comparing with women who today go through this process in their 20s, 30s, I think that my phase was brief. Maybe because I have this soul of an artist, contestant. At some point I asked myself: “Why fit in? I will be what I am!” Nowadays, if they propose to brush my hair, I don’t accept it. If you want a different look, let them comb a black power or put on a large afro hair extension. Smooth, it won’t be. The exception is some period work, with context, such as “The days were like this” (2017). Shirley, from “Éramos Six” (2019), wore her hair up, but kept it curly.

Have you ever lived a summer love?

Already! On New Year’s Eve from 2015 to 2016, in Caraíva, Bahia. I met a guy and we got together during the trip, it was great! Afterwards, this thing went on for about six months. He was from Brasilia.

It takes me back to my childhood. My father had a friend who owned a farm in Bom Jardim, in the interior of the state of Rio. We used to go there a lot during school holidays.
