Manaus (AM) – After its success in Manaus, the show “Dois Irmãos” competes in four categories of the Cenym National Theater Award 2023. Inspired by the work of Milton Hatoum, the Amazonian play is signed by Menina Miúda Produções Artísticas.

At the Cenym 2023 Awards, the show competes in the following categories:

  • Best Supporting Actress,

The show’s director, Cairo Vasconcelos, celebrates the nominations. “It is recognition for the entire team who worked tirelessly on the show ‘Dois Irmãos’. It is a testament to the talent and dedication of everyone involved. Now, we just have to wait for the awards,” he said.

Nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, Amazonian actress Acácia Mié competes with names like Beth Goulart and Olívia Araújo. In the play ‘Dois Irmãos’, she plays ‘Domingas’, the housekeeper and mother of Nael, the narrator-character played by actor Gabriel Mota.

Journalist Edilene Mafra signs the strategic communication for the first season of the show.

Synopsis

Set in 20th century Manaus, the show “Dois Irmãos” is inspired by the novel of the same name — of the same name — “Dois Irmãos”. In the work, Amazonian writer Milton Hatoum portrays the conflicts of a family.

At the center of the novel are the twins Yaqub and Omar, who have a relationship marked by tension and rivalry.

Seasons

Created and staged by people from Amazonas, the show presented two seasons in Manaus, one in May and the other in August of this year.

The cast of the first season included Amanda Magaiver (Zana); Brenda Amora (Rania); Acácia Mié (Domingas); Junior Victorino (Omar); Beto Monteiro (Yaqub); Wilson do Carmo (Halim) and Gabriel Mota (Nael). In the second season, Pabi Xavier started to play Rania.

Cairo Vasconcelos is the general director of the show. The production and body preparation is by Emília Pontes.

Dione Maciel designed the costumes. Viktor Judah was the music producer. The lighting is by Marcio Braz. The makeup and visagism are by Eugenio Lima.

Cairo Vasconcelos said that Menina Miúda Produções Artísticas is planning a third season of the play. “Our intention is to provide the public with more opportunities to be moved by the story of the show. We will share more details soon,” he said.

Milton Hatoum’s novel has already been adapted for TV, in a Globo miniseries; in a theatrical show, by professionals from São Paulo; and in HQ (Comic Books), by comic artists from São Paulo Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá.

It was the first time that the novel had a theatrical play created and produced by people from Amazonas. The assembly was made possible after the project was included in the 2022 Funarte Theater Stimulus Award. The presentations in Manaus were supported by the Secretariat of State and Creative Economy of Amazonas (SEC-AM) and the Municipal Foundation for Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult).

Cenym Award

Held annually by the Academia de Artes no Teatro do Brasil (ATEB), the Cenym Award recognizes the talents of Brazilian theater, from works, artists, to projects and locations.

Created in 2001, as a local event in Sergipe, by actor, director, producer, screenwriter and theater critic Tom Williamson, the award reaches its 22nd edition in 2023.

The award continued in a local format until 2010, when it started to be presented by ATEB and officially became a national award.

The statuette ceremony traditionally takes place in November, when the winners of the 30 award categories are announced.

How the prize works

The winners of the Cenym Award are chosen through a vote by an ATEB committee. According to the organization of the award, the group is made up of actors, actresses, directors, set designers, choreographers, costume designers, lighting designers, sound designers, makeup artists, critics and other professionals working on stages across the country.

This year, voting will take place from November 6th to 12th. After defining the winners, the Cenym Prize will deliver the awards on November 21st, in Aracaju, Sergipe.

“The winners of the edition will be revealed at a special private event. However, everyone will be able to follow the announcement that will be widely disseminated on the website and on our social networks, in real time, from 9pm Brasília time”,

informed the organization.
