Stork drivers ask for brakes in transition to electric cars – 02/18/2024 – Panel SA

Even the stork drivers, truck drivers who transport new cars to dealerships, complain about the competition between electric cars and traditional vehicles from large automakers installed in the country. For them, the market has been invaded by BYD’s electric models and time is needed for the entire industry to adapt, otherwise the sector will collapse.
According to José Ronaldo Marques da Silva, president of Sinaceg (National Union of Cegonheiros), the ideal would be for automakers to expand their focus on the production of hybrid vehicles, which combine combustion engines and electric batteries.
The stork drivers entered the field because, for them, there is a weight problem when transporting electric cars.
The union states that, in some cases, each car can weigh almost 500 kg, making it necessary to adapt logistics. Instead of 11 cars per trailer, eight would be transported.
“The electric car is a reality, certainly for the near future. But changes cannot be made suddenly. A transition policy is needed for the automotive chain to adapt”, says Silva, also known as Boizinho.
