Standoff with nurses in Rio should go to trial – 03/04/2023 – Panel SA

Amidst the struggle for the implementation of the new national floor for nurses, the union leadership of the category in Rio and the city of Rio are still fighting another battle for readjustment, but have not reached an agreement to end the strike that started last month.

The case must proceed to trial at the TRT-1 (Regional Labor Court of the 1st Region).

In a new hearing in court this Monday morning (3), employers’ representatives did not present a proposal for the readjustment, according to the agency.

“We are open to negotiation, but the city hall is not willing to negotiate. We will continue to mobilize the category. And we also have a national construction to demand the implementation of the wage floor”, says Marco Schiavo, general superintendent of Sindenfrj (union of nurses in Rio ).

Sought by Panel SA, the city of Rio de Janeiro did not respond. According to the TRT, the municipality states that it has no interference in the issue of the national nursing floor.

In recent months, union leaders of nurses have mobilized protests in several states to press for the new minimum wage for the category, which has been suspended since September by the STF (Federal Supreme Court).
