SP presses telecoms to implement rural internet – 05/01/2023 – Panel SA

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), wants because he wants the teles to take internet to the rural area of ​​the state, where there is no commercial potential.

First, the operators replied that he should talk to Anatel (National Communications Agency), the only body that says what should or should not be done by the sector.

On Friday (28), Tarcísio called the telecasts again for a meeting at Palácio Bandeirantes and the conversation changed.

For companies, the way out would be the approval of a state law allowing them to adhere to an agreement by Confaz (National Council for Finance Policy) which today converts up to 75% of the value of telecommunications investments into ICMS credits.

The idea is already in practice in at least six states. Through “Alô, Minas”, for example, operators already cover 157 small municipalities in Minas Gerais and can reduce ICMS payments with credits generated in these places with low commercial power.

Reports indicate that Tarcísio liked what he heard.
