SP concessionaires reduce prices after Lula’s measure – 06/06/2023 – Market

Faced with the new policy of the Lula government to encourage the purchase of cars, formalized on Monday (5), dealerships in São Paulo began to reduce the price of zero-kilometer vehicles.

In addition to the popular models—which are the focus of the program—, premium line vehicles are also now being sold at a discount.

At Jeep Dahruj in Sumaré, one of the sellers says that the Sport version of the Renegade went on sale this Tuesday (6) and is now being sold for R$ 115,990 – the previous price was R$ 134,990.

Rafael Sestenari, manager of a Chevrolet dealership in Itaim Bibi, says that since the weekend the price of the automatic Spin sold in the store went from R$ 115,000 to R$ 99,990.

There was also an impact for the S10, a car that was sold at BRL 294,670, according to him, and has now dropped to BRL 220,000. Sestenari says that the drop in prices is an anticipation of the brand to attract customers, but still does not reflect the tax reduction.

“The onyx, for example, which is a slightly simpler car, has not been altered yet. And the person who wants to buy it is waiting to see what will happen. So it remains in this water bath until the definition is reached”, he says. Sestenari.

In Pinheiros, a Renault Carrera dealership already sells the Kwid Zen for R$58,990, a reduction of R$10,000 compared to the suggested value before the federal government’s measure. The new price came into effect as of this Tuesday, according to the store manager, Erivan da Costa.

Still according to him, a drop of BRL 5,000 is also expected in the price of the Stepway 1.0, which today is sold for BRL 79,990.

Erivan claims that sales are still stalled, because customers are waiting for new information and discounts to buy a new car. “It’s recent. The staff is confused. Once the commercial action comes out, we’ll call the customers and then we’ll see how the thermometer is. But it’s still stopped”, he says.

At a Fiat dealership in Sumaré, the manager, Márcio Chadi, says that this Wednesday (7) the automaker should announce whether there will be reductions.

“Fiat is being very assertive. We still don’t have this real discount parameter. Tomorrow we will have it.”

Dealership managers from Hyundai, Citroen and Peugeot told the report that, until this Tuesday afternoon, they still had not lowered the prices of popular cars.

In the second, the Lula government detailed how the measure for the popular car will be. Initially, the focus of the policy was on cars priced at up to R$120,000, but in recent days the government has decided to include trucks and buses as well. An MP (provisional measure) was signed by the president to implement the benefits, and automakers will be able to apply the discounts from the publication of the norm. The program will run for up to four months.

The government also confirmed the partial resumption of taxation on diesel to offset the tax waiver. The rate on fuel, which would be zero until December 31, 2023, will rise to R$ 0.11 per liter from September.

At first, the Mdic informed that the reduction in final prices would be between 1.5% and 10.96%.

After conversations with the Ministry of Finance, however, the program was redesigned, and the direct exemption of taxes gave way to a new model.
