The World Bank and the City of São Paulo are in negotiations to release financing of US$ 150 million (around R$ 743 million) for the Qualifica Suas program (Single Social Assistance System).
A technical team from the United Nations (UN) will visit the capital of São Paulo this week to learn about the city’s social assistance network. If funding is approved, the organization will carry out periodic assessments of services. The amount does not need to be returned by municipal management.
The program aims to restructure the specialized social approach service for homeless people, expand Vilas Reencontro, which is the transitional housing service, and improve service in reception centers.
The municipal secretary of Social Assistance and Development of São Paulo, Carlos Bezerra Jr., was with a team of technicians in Washington, USA, to submit the program for approval by World Bank technicians. He was interviewed by the organization’s directors and technicians.
