Soybean exports yield US$ 169 billion in three years – 03/22/2023 – Vaivém

Exports of soy and derivatives have been increasing year after year and should reach US$ 66.4 billion in 2023. If confirmed, the value will be 89% higher than in 2020. From 2021 to 2023, exports of soy and derivatives could add US$ 169.4 billion.

Record national production, Chinese demand, crop failure in competing countries, prices still at high levels and the increase in the blend of biodiesel with diesel cooperate for this record that the sector should reach.

The data, released this Wednesday (22), are from Abiove (Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries), which predicts more robust numbers for this year than the previous one.

This scenario of good exports guarantees income for producers. The Gross Value of Production with soy will be R$ 387 billion this year within the gate, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

In February, Brazilians exported a ton of soybeans, including premiums, for US$ 565 via the port of Paranaguá (PR). It is a value lower than last year, but still at a high level.

Production, which had a break in 2022 due to droughts, rises to a record 153.6 million tons this year. This increases the potential for internal processing and export of soy and its derivatives.

The increase in the mixture of biodiesel and diesel from 10% to 12% helps raise domestic oil consumption, which will reach 9 billion liters, 25% more than in 2022, according to Abiove.

Greater processing also allows for an increase in soybean meal exports to 20.7 million tons. Argentina, world leader in foreign sales of this type of bran, will have less availability this year. The Argentines, who expected 50 million tons of soybeans, will only produce 25 million.

In the assessment of the association of industries, the country will process 52.5 million tons of oilseeds, 3% above last year’s volume.

The volume to be exported by Brazil still depends on several external factors, such as the size of the Chinese appetite and the performance of the North American crop. Hence the diversity of predictions.

AgRural believes in a volume close to 92 million tons, a level in line with Abiove and Conab forecasts. Agroconsult, on the other hand, estimates an output of 96 million tons of oilseeds through Brazilian ports.
