The organization of South Summit Brazil 2023 confirmed, this Wednesday (18), the registration of 2,020 participants from different parts of the world in the Startups Competition, a record for the event. According to the state government, co-organizer of the activity, the number is more than double that registered in the first Brazilian edition, when there were a thousand subscribers and five won in the categories Highlight, Most Sustainable, Most Scalable, Most Innovative and Best Team . The meeting takes place from the 29th to the 31st of March, in Porto Alegre.
The startups represent 86 countries, such as Germany, Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Chile, Colombia, Spain, United States, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Nepal, Pakistan, Ukraine and Zimbabwe. Participation corresponds to 44% of countries and reinforces the global nature of the event.
Among the national companies, representatives of 92% of the Brazilian states are confirmed, with emphasis on Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo and Santa Catarina. The deadline for registration ended on January 16 and projects from any sector and at any stage of development were accepted.
The Startups Competition has been taking place globally for ten years and more than 10 billion dollars have already been invested by funds in startups entered in the competition. The expectation is that more than one hundred funds will be present this year.
The acting governor, Gabriel Souza, points out that the numbers reflect the interest of entrepreneurs and consolidates the importance of the edition held in Rio Grande do Sul. “Our objective is precisely this: to connect startups, global investment funds and companies, in addition to acting as a showcase for Brazilian business to the world”, reinforces Gabriel, who is the coordinator of the Special Projects Office, from which the South Summit Brazil is part.
