South African Airways obtained authorization from Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) to return to operating in Brazil. The South African company’s first flight departing from Cape Town directly to São Paulo is scheduled for October 31st and will last nine hours.
On November 6th, the first flight will depart from Johannesburg. To Guarulhos International Airport, in São Paulo, the journey will take 10 hours. The authorization must be published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Monday (25).
South Africam faced a serious crisis in recent years and even stopped all its operations. With the return of its intercontinental travel, the company will have four direct weekly flights leaving São Paulo, two to Johannesburg (on Mondays and Thursdays) and another two to Cape Town (Tuesdays and Saturdays), an unprecedented route.
The company was founded in 1934, and has 53 aircraft in the fleet. The authorization to operate in Brazil responds to the process of bringing Brazilian aviation closer to countries on the African continent at the request of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
At the beginning of September, Latam opened a route connecting São Paulo to Johannesburg on direct flights.
