Sicredi participates in the largest credit union event in the world

Canada – The future of credit unions, financial inclusion, sustainability and inclusive leadership will be some of the topics discussed at the Woccu ​​World Conference (World Council of Credit Unions), scheduled to take place between July 23rd and 26th, in Vancouver, Canada.

Sicredi will be present at the event that will connect more than 3,000 professionals from credit unions around the world. In addition to participating in the conference with around 70 representatives, Sicredi will present panels focused on sustainability, female entrepreneurship, cooperation, inclusion and diversity.

As a pre-conference activity, on July 22, the WYCUP Global Emerging Leaders’ Summit, organized by the Young Professionals program of the World Council of Credit Unions. On the date, Isaura Morel, Sustainability Manager at Sicredi, will address the theme “Strategy and Systemic Sustainability Initiatives at Sicredi”.

Next, Ariane Zen, Relationship Manager at Sicredi União MS/TO and West Bahia, will present the case on the cooperative project aimed at women entrepreneurs, “Donas do Negócios”. Finally, Sicredi Rio Paraná PR/SP associate and member of the youth committee, Victor Saab, will speak about the forest recovery project in the panel on “Cooperation and reforestation in riparian forests in the region of Mirante do Paranapanema”.

The official opening ceremony of the Woccu ​​World Conference will take place on Sunday, July 23rd. On the 24th, César Bochi, CEO of Banco Cooperativo Sicredi, and Manfred Alfonso Dasenbrock, WOCCU director and president of Central Sicredi PR/SP/RJ, represent Sicredi at the General Assembly of the World Council of Credit Unions, when Woccu ​​leaders meet to make joint decisions.

Following the conference schedule, on July 25, Clairton Walter, Executive Superintendent of Regulatory Affairs at Sicredi, will address “Legal Strategies to Improve Your Credit Union”.

On the same day, Romeo Balzan, Superintendent of Cooperativism and Sustainability at Sicredi, will speak about the “Committee for Inclusion, Diversity and Systemic Equity”. Balzan will also end Sicredi’s presentations at the conference with the lecture “Demystifying the Journey to Net Zero – Global Perspectives on Sustainable Transitions”, on July 26th.

Sicredi is a finalist of the WYCUP 2023 Program

In addition to presenting its good practices at the Woccu ​​World Conference, Sicredi is also one of the finalists for the WYCUP com the “Donas do Negócios” project, supported by Central BRC – Sicredi União MS/TO and West Bahia. The recognition will be announced on July 22nd and is awarded by World Council Young Credit Union Professionals (WYCUP), with the aim of encouraging the training of young leaders and rewarding projects with the potential to cause global influence in credit unions.

The “Business Owners” aims to encourage entrepreneurship, empowerment and qualification of women, fundamental agents of the country’s economic transformation. The program received advice from International Finance Corporation (IFC) – the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in developing countries and a member of the World Bank Group – aiming to boost the segment of micro and small companies led by women and integrate them into its business model in a sustainable way.

Credit unions in the world

Credit unions are a business model present in 118 countries, according to a report by the World Council of Credit Unions (Woccu ​​2021), bringing together more than 393 million members and surpassing the mark of US$ 3.4 trillion in assets.

In Brazil, according to the Central Bank, credit cooperatives are present in more than half (55%) of the cities. There are already more than 15.6 million members of 799 credit unions across the country.
