Chinese retailer Shein is going to start producing garments in Brazil in July, at a factory located in Macaíba, in Rio Grande do Norte.

The announcement was made this Thursday (29) by the governor of the state, Fátima Bezerra (PT), together with the president of the Chinese company for Brazil and Latin America, Marcelo Claure, and the president of the Brazilian company Coteminas, Josué Gomes. .

The three participated in a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), at the Planalto Palace.

“We came here with Governor Fátima because we will be starting now in July the production of garments for the national, Brazilian domestic market, and for the entire region through Rio Grande do Norte”, stated the president of Coteminas, Josué Gomes .

Coteminas will initially be responsible for producing the garments at its factory in Macaíba (RN). This factory will be the “integrator” of the work, being supplied by the work of other sewing workshops, which will be spread throughout the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

Josué Gomes adds that Brazilian production at Coteminas will start with jeans, denim and cotton knits.

Marcelo Claure, from Shein, pointed out that the start of production is part of a commitment that was assumed by the company with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad. The company told the Lula government that it will open around 2,000 factories in Brazil, employing around 100,000 people.

The executive adds that US$ 150 million will be invested in this process to finance the factories and also for personnel training.

“It is part of a process of changing manufacturing in China and bringing this manufacturing to Brazil”, said the Chinese retailer’s Executive.

In an interview with Folha earlier this month, Marcelo Claure stated that a garment manufactured in Brazil by Shein could cost the same or even be cheaper than a garment imported from China today.

“Brazil has everything, it has the raw material, cotton, polyester and jeans”, he said at the time, at the newly opened Shein headquarters in the country, on Avenida Faria Lima, west of São Paulo, bank addresses and multinationals. “My dream is that we have Brazilian designers, Brazilian fabrics, Brazilian manufacturing and the sale of products all over the world. We are close to achieving this.”

Governor Fátima Bezerra also informed that President Lula signed a decree to include Rio Grande do Norte in the fiscal recovery regime. The act is expected to be published this Friday (30) in the Official Gazette of the Union.

“The president has just signed a decree, which will be published in the Official Gazette this Friday, which formalizes Rio Grande do Norte’s adherence to the fiscal balance program. of R$ 1.6 billion”, said the governor.

“These resources are very important, because they will be primarily used to make large investments in the recovery and road network of Rio Grande do Norte, associated with investments that we are going to make in the area of ​​tourism and family farming”, he added.
