Sesc São Paulo is in the final stages of negotiations to take over management of the João Brícola building, a space located in the center of São Paulo that housed the traditional Mappin and Casas Bahia stores.
According to Panel SA, Sesc should make the official announcement in the next few days and is awaiting the final details of the documentation. The building belongs to the São Carlos group, a company controlled by the families of Jorge Paulo Lemann, Beto Sicupira and Marcel Telles, Americanas’ main shareholders.
Patrícia Piquera, who has worked at Sesc since 2001 and is the current unit manager at Carmo, is quoted to take charge of the new space.
The João Brícola building has been closed since the beginning of the month, when Casas Bahia left the premises. Built in 1939, the building was designed by architect Elisário Bahiana, the same person who designed the Chá viaduct, and belonged to Santa Casa de Misericórdia until 2019, when the São Carlos group bought the land. The space hosted Mappin for 60 years and Casas Bahia for the last 19 years.
