Senator wants quota for people rescued in slave labor – 07/03/2023 – Panel SA

Senator Augusta Brito (PT-CE) wants to add to the Bidding Law the possibility of hiring rescued workers in a situation analogous to slavery.
The project was filed days after the revelation of the rescue of almost 200 workers kept in precarious conditions in the grape harvest in Bento Gonçalves (RS). They worked for two companies that provided services to Aurora wineries, Cooperativa Garibaldi and Salton.
The law already provides that public notices may include a minimum percentage of labor with women who have suffered domestic violence or who have been released from the prison system. According to the senator, it would be necessary to expand the process of social inclusion and fight labor inequalities.
Brito cites data from the Ministry of Labor pointing out that, from 2017 to June 2022, more than 10,000 labor processes were judged as employment relationships in conditions analogous to slavery. Between 2020 and 2021, growth in these causes was 41%.
