The creator of Angy Birds, Rovio Entertainment, confirmed this Saturday (15) talks with the Japanese video game brand Sega. The video game giant behind Sonic is interested in acquiring the mobile game developer, according to the Wall Street Journal.
A statement released by Rovio confirmed the talks, but gave no details on the terms of the deal.
The move by Finnish company Rovio Entertainment Corporation is part of a strategic review that began in February.
On Friday (8), the Wall Street Journal reported that Sega is close to acquiring Rovio for about $ 1 billion (R $ 4.9 billion). Rovio declined to comment on the valuation, but data from Refinitiv Eikon show its market capitalization closed Friday at 594.1 million euros (about R$3.6 billion).
In January, Rovio received a €683 million takeover offer from Playtika Holding Corp, an Israeli company. Negotiations, however, ended last month.
There is no certainty about if and when the possible takeover offer by Sega will take place. Sega did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
