With the 57th Parintins Festival approaching, the Government of Amazonas, through the Amazonas State Tourism Company (Amazonastur), guides visitors and other participants on precautions when purchasing tourist products and services and alerts them to the practices considered abusive actions related to the event, which takes place on the 28th, 29th and 30th of June, in the municipality of lower Amazonas (369 kilometers from Manaus). This year’s edition is expected to exceed the more than 110 thousand tourists in 2023.

Amazonastur’s director of tourism, Emmanuelle Pampulha, reinforces the importance of tourists seeking information about the tourist products and services they wish to purchase. The main guideline is to look for establishments with the seal of the Register of Tourist Service Providers (Cadastur), from the Ministry of Tourism (MTur), to guarantee safety and quality of service.

“When researching, tourists need to pay attention to the prices offered, the location of the provider, whether they have a CNPJ and whether they are regularized with Cadastur. After this search, he must request a contract, receipt or note from the chosen provider. Another guideline is for tourists to know exactly what is included in the service or product”, explains the tourism director at Amazonastur.

Attention is valid when hiring services related to tourist packages, tickets, accommodation, transfers, tour guides, tours, among other activities in the segment. Visitors should also be careful when renting properties for the bovine festival season, considering market prices and a contract with very clear clauses.

To better assist tourists, Amazonastur provides the technological tool “Amazonas To Go”, through a chatbot, which provides tips on things to do, places to visit, accommodation options, travel agencies, among others. All enterprises present are registered or have registration and carry out tourist activities in a regular and safe manner.

Amazonas To Go is present in 13 municipalities in Amazonas, including Parintins, and can be accessed via the QR Code, telephone (92)99356-8775, or even on posters spread across the main tourist attractions in Amazonas.

“Amazonastur advises that tourists follow the recommendations to hire regularized and transparent services to enjoy the best festival experience, leaving our state with the certainty that we are a sustainable and orderly destination”, said Emmanuelle Pampulha.

Abusive conduct

Tourists also need to be careful to avoid abusive conduct against consumer rights, which involves tying up of airline tickets, river transport and other services for the 2024 Parintins Festival. The practice is considered criminal against consumer relations because it takes away from the consumer the freedom to choose what to buy, as the sale of a service or product is conditional on the acquisition of another.

A partner of Amazonastur, the Regulatory Agency for Public Services Granted in the State of Amazonas (Arsepam), responsible for inspecting vessels, recommends that tourists opt for boats and speedboats regulated by the agency, in addition to observing the price list, the flow of passengers and safety equipment.

The Amazonas Consumer Protection Institute (Procon-AM) recalled that the consumer has up to seven days to cancel a contract made via the internet and telephone. And the deadline for complaints varies from 30 to 90 days. It is the provider’s obligation to provide clear and precise information about advertised products and services, avoiding misleading consumers.

Reporting channels

If they feel aggrieved, the user of water transport must seek Arsepam inspection on site. If there is an impediment, the complaint must be forwarded to the agency’s ombudsman via the WhatsApp number 92 2020-1117.

In the case of Procon-AM, complaints must be forwarded to: [email protected] and indicate the contact; supplier identification (if possible CNPJ and address); narration of facts and available documentation.
