See seven good Easter eggs for less than R$150 – 03/19/2024 – Food

In the first quarter, chocolate eggs hit the shelves of supermarkets, shopping malls and artisanal stores, becoming essential on the tables of many Brazilians – adults or children.

At Folha Prova, the task of blind tasting Easter eggs evaluated the production of almost 40 chocolates in this year’s season. Participants only had product descriptions, allowing them to evaluate their quality without influence from brands.

The products were divided into four categories: bitter and semi-sweet, milk, white and stuffed. The mix and proportion of the ingredients, the quality of the chocolate and the amount of sugar were considered.

With projected prices on the rise, see below a selection of Easter egg brands that participated in the tasting and weighed less on your pocket. Easter eggs cost between R$32 and R$125.

A specific set of jurors participated at each table, but all had the participation of three experts. They are: Brenda Freitas, pastry chef at the Maní restaurant; Rhaiza Zanetti, pastry chef at Tuju restaurant; and Maurício Marques Lopes Filho, gastronomy professor at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. Three journalists from Sheet who are consumers of these products joined them in each category.

The Folha Prova section offers the reader a shopping guide and has already evaluated products such as white wine, olive oil, hazelnut cream, frozen cheese bread and panettone. The result is not a ranking, but a list that evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the products.

Danke (R$ 32.90)
Simple and well done. These are the characteristics highlighted by the judges to describe the Brazilian Danke egg, made with cocoa from a network of family farmers in Pará. The product contains only milk chocolate and is added with mini eggs. Brenda Freitas, pastry chef, Gabriel Moreno and Nadine Nascimento, journalists from Sheetstate that the model is more basic, but elegant and well produced.

Sugar Loaf (R$ 45.90)
The supermarket chain’s version is a half egg filled with chocolate cake, hazelnut cream and red fruit mousse, decorated with blackberries, strawberries and blueberries. For Patrick Fuentes, also a journalist, the composition looks more like a cake than an Easter egg. On the other hand, the three experts agreed that the filling dough was moist, fresh, soft and had a good presentation. “For a spoon egg, it surprised me,” says Rhaiza Zanetti.

Cocoa Show (R$ 79.99)
The egg made only with white chocolate from La Creme, the brand’s most premium line, is the best value for money option, according to the judges’ assessment. The sweet didn’t seem cloying, it’s well made and has shine, says Maurício Lopes, gastronomy professor at Mackenzie. Pastry chef Rhaiza Zanetti, however, observed a flavor that resembled powdered milk in the composition.

Baci with hazelnuts (R$ 99.97)
The milk chocolate egg has crunchy caramelized hazelnuts in its composition and also contains milk chocolates. The hazelnuts balance well with the sweetness of the chocolate, according to Brenda Freitas. For Maurício, the Italian brand’s proposal is well done.

Lindt (R$ 109.90)
The evaluators’ favorite choice, the egg has a thin shell, as well as being easy to break in your hands and melt in your mouth. It also comes with Swiss milk chocolate truffles. “This chocolate doesn’t have to be greasy. It’s well presented, not too thick and easy to eat”, highlights Gabriel Moreno. Brenda states that the egg shell is elegant and shiny, a result of the manufacturing process done correctly.

Kopenhagen (R$ 134.90)
Right away, the judges identified the brand by the presence of cat tongue tablets on the shell and inside the egg, one of the brand’s most popular lines. The consensus, however, is that more was expected from chocolate. “I think the result was a little below what the brand usually delivers”, says Nadine Nascimento.

Luzz (R$125)
The combination of 71% cocoa chocolate with Amazonian fruit was pleasing. “I thought it was delicious, even though I’m not a fan of cupuaçu”, says Marcelo Azevedo. The product, well made according to tasters, had small pieces of fruit embedded inside the egg. “It generated an explosion of flavors”, says journalist Silvia Rodrigues. For Rhaiza Zanetti, the acidity and texture of the chocolate were good, but the cupuaçu snack chips were hard.
