More than the goal of zero-kilometer cars sold in June benefited from the federal government’s measure that offers a discount for vehicles worth up to R$ 120,000.
According to a survey carried out by consultancy Jato, the sector sold a total of 179 thousand light and commercial vehicles in the month, of which 93.5 thousand (52.2%) received the discount.
Among the best-selling models through the program are the Volkswagen Polo and the Chevrolet Onix, with 9,746 and 8,260 units sold, respectively. Following the list, models such as Fiat Strada and Fiat Mobi appear. See the full list of discounted cars here.
The almost 179,000 light and commercial vehicles sold in June represent growth of 7.6% compared to the previous month and 7.8% compared to June last year.
For Milad Kalume, business development director at Jato, the sales volume was a surprise. According to him, the number of cars sold was boosted in the last week, with 30,000 vehicles sold in the last two days of the month alone.
The result, according to Kalume, can be attributed to factors such as the mass spread of advertisements about the government’s incentive program and discounts offered by the concessionaires themselves.
The participation of direct sales, made by automakers to audiences such as rental companies, people with disabilities and taxi drivers, in the total recorded by the consultancy also increased. On the last 26th, the segment had made 39.2% of vehicle purchases, according to a partial survey by the consultancy. Now, the level has risen to 43.6%.
“The rental companies, understanding that, eventually, they would not be able to buy [com desconto]may have anticipated the purchases of some segments a little”, says Kalume.
Waiting for the government discount, the rental companies paralyzed part of the acquisition of new cars. According to Abla (association that represents the sector), orders are in the portfolios, but billings are locked.
