Santa Casa de São Paulo cancels residency test – 12/18/2023 – Balance and Health

Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo will cancel the 1st phase of the selection process for medical residency and apply new tests to the more than 5.2 thousand registered candidates.

According to the institution, errors in the application of the exam affected the fairness of those enrolled in the selection process, making it necessary to re-administer all tests. According to Santa Casa, no signs of fraud were found in the investigations already carried out.

“We regret the occurrences and reinforce that the brotherhood is premised on probity and
transparency in all its processes and takes this decision to guarantee equal access to
residency programs”, states the entity.

The date of the new tests should be announced this Monday (18), with the publication of an updated schedule.

The decision was announced after a meeting between the brotherhood and Cremesp (Regional Council of Medicine of the State of São Paulo), represented by the president and the first secretary of the Council, Angelo Vattimo and Irene Abramovich, and after candidates took legal action.

In a public note signed by lawyers Gabriel Prado de Souza Aranha and Luca Zuccari Boskovitz and 25 doctors, it is mentioned, for example, that “some copies of the test had a slight light gray highlight on the correct alternatives”.

In response, Santa Casa and the Instituto Mais de Gestão e Desenvolvimento Social, responsible for applying the tests, confirmed failures in the delivery and printing of the tests.

The institutions, however, stated that only candidates from nine programs — pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, endocrinology and metabolism, gastroenterology, geriatrics, hematology and hemotherapy, clinical oncology, pulmonology and rheumatology — had been harmed and would have the tests reapplied. For the others, the selection process would continue normally.

The decision was not satisfactory and, on the 12th, the lawyers filed a request for an injunction to cancel the tests for all specialties or suspend the approval of the first phase until the irregularities were investigated.

The process was distributed to 4^The Civil Court of the Regional Court of Pinheiros, under the care of judge Diego Ferreira Mendes, who denied early protection.

The lawyers then appealed to the Court of Justice, asking for compensation for moral damages, reimbursement of the registration fee and payment of all expenses incurred by the plaintiffs due to the cancellation of the test. The case remains in progress.
