Samba schools compete for the right to join the Manaus Carnival elite

Manaus (AM) – On the second day of parades at the Samba Schools of Manaus, the eight groups from Access Group A paraded in search of a great objective: to take the title of champion and move up to the elite of the Manaus Carnival, earning the right to parade among the schools in the Special Group in 2025. The Samba School parades, which are part of the Carnival in the Forest program, are organized by the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy.

For the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy, Marcos Apolo Muniz, the possibility of ascending to the Special Group is reflected in the quality of the parades presented by the schools in Access Group A. “We see this concern and dedication to make a great Carnival . This is important so that we can even see the investment that each one made there, placing professionals to make their costumes, make their props, their allegories”, stated the secretary.

For Marcos Apolo, the generation of jobs and income are one of the fundamental characteristics of Carnival. “And the Wilson Lima government, in this way, does this work of generating jobs, income, opportunities, in addition to, obviously, valuing carnival and the culture of our state”, he stated.

“So, the schools are to be congratulated, the players are to be congratulated, the professionals involved are to be congratulated. And this trophy will certainly be well contested, considering that they really came there to compete, to fight. And that is very good, healthy. The winner, obviously, is the population and culture of our state”,

concluded the secretary.

The parades

Unidos da Cidade Nova entered the samba catwalk at 9pm, starting the marathon of parades on the second night of the Samba Schools’ presentation at the Manaus Sambadrome. The school, representing the Cidade Nova neighborhood, in the North of Manaus, brought the plot “With the permission of São Jorge, on feast days and arraiá, the Batista family will pass…”, celebrating the history of the traditional family involved with the Amazonian folklore.

Then, Mocidade Independente do Coroado, representative of the homonymous neighborhood in the East zone of Manaus, paraded along the samba catwalk with the theme “O Coroado brings Anne Moura, Icamiaba, daughter of this ground”, highlighting the fact that the activist, politician and defender of social causes was born and raised in the Coroado neighborhood.

Third to perform for the public and judges at the Sambódromo, Império do Hawaii takes a trip through the world of dreams to tell the story of Ivo Neto with the plot “Giant, you are the size of your dreams”. Representative of Praça 14 de Janeiro, a neighborhood in the South zone also known as the birthplace of samba, the school showed how Ivo Neto, the Giant, fulfilled his dream of helping children and young people.

Academicos da Cidade Alta, representative of the Educandos neighborhood, in the Center-South zone, paid homage to state deputy Abdala Fraxe with the story “Giant by nature itself, Abdala Fraxe – The cry of a Macuxi indigenous man echoes in the lands of Ajuricaba. For the people of the forest.”

In the early hours of Saturday (03/02) President Vargas, representative of the homonymous neighborhood in the South zone, also known as Matinha, continued the fashion shows by bringing to the catwalk the parade “Samba root is samba passion, Couro Velho: 20 years of tradition”. The school paid homage to the samba group Couro Velho and the parties it holds in Quintal do Couro Velho, famous among people from Manaus.

Traditional Samba School of Manaus, which for many years was part of the Special Group, Sem Compromisso was the sixth school to parade through Access Group A. With the plot “In this Encontro das Águas sails the audacity of a dreamer: Oswaldo Lopes, the trajectory of the great communicator”, in honor of journalist Oswaldo Lopes, president of the Encontro das Águas Radio and Television system.

The penultimate school to perform on the samba catwalk on the second night of parades at the Sambódromo, Tradição Leste paraded with the theme “From ancient Egypt to the engine: when changing the oil, Tradição Leste beats its drum”. Representative of the Coroado neighborhood, in the East zone, the school told the history of lubricants, showing their importance for the economy and world history, with records of their use in Ancient Egypt to lubricate the wheels of Pharaoh Ra-Em-Ka’s sleigh .

Closing the last night of parades, Beija Flor do Norte took on the theme “Between daydreams and madness, Beija Flor flies to Maranhão, my treasure, my clod”. Among myths and legends, it told the story of Ana Joaquina Jansen Pereira, “Donana Jansen, Queen of Maranhão”, who helped a lot in the development of that state, leaving many stories in History full of magic and enchantment.
