The cost of the MC-21 (or MS-21) aircraft for Aeroflot and other Russian airlines will be lower than the market price. This was reported to the state news agency TASS by the head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov.

A TASS interlocutor in government agencies stated that the cost of the new MC-21 aircraft will be around 3 billion rubles (or about 36.7 million dpolar) for Russian airlines. “A similar Boeing costs twice as much.”

With the measure, the Russian government plans to reduce the burden on airlines and passengers, since ticket prices include aircraft rental, according to Chemezov. “This is done specifically so that, at a difficult time for the industry, airlines can afford to buy new equipment and keep domestic transport active.”

At the same time, the Russian state will help the aviation industry partially offset the cost of aircraft, according to Chemezov.

“It is clear that this approach does not work without state support measures, so the state will certainly help the aviation industry to partially offset the cost of aircraft,” said the head of Rostec.

“Similar approaches work in many countries, such as Europe or China, where authorities deliberately subsidize the cost of aircraft to carriers in order to maintain a competitive price level,” added Chemezov.

Earlier, the Rostec press service reported that serial deliveries of MC-21 aircraft equipped with Russian PD-14 engines are planned to start in 2024, when six aircraft will be transferred to operators.

In February of this year, Aeroflot and Rostec signed a contract for the supply of 18 MC-21 aircraft in 2023-2025. Earlier, Aeroflot said it planned to take delivery of the first MC-21s in the fourth quarter of 2024.

In September last year, the Russian company UAC (United Aircraft Corporation) and Aeroflot signed an agreement of intentions for the supply of 339 aircraft by 2030, for sums of more than 1 trillion rubles. The contract involves a total of 210 MC-21s, expected to be delivered to Aeroflot by 2030.
