Deadline started on Friday and ends on May 31st

More than 1.86 million Personal Income Tax (IRPF) declarations for 2024 were submitted in the first 32 hours of the deadline. The Federal Revenue began receiving the documents, which have a base year of 2023, at 8am this Friday (15th) and the deadline for delivery ends on May 31st of this year.

According to the Ministry of Finance, 88% of declarations submitted by 4pm this Saturday (16) will be entitled to receive refunds from the Federal Revenue, while 6.6% will have to pay and 5.3% have no tax due. The majority of documents were filled out using the computer program (74.1%), but taxpayers also used the website (16.5%) and the application (9.5%).

The pre-filled declaration was used by 46.4% of taxpayers who have already submitted the document to the Federal Revenue Service. The simplified declaration option accounts for 57.7% of deliveries.

The Federal Revenue’s estimate is to receive, by the end of the deadline, 43 million declarations. Declaring income tax is mandatory for people who had, in 2023, taxable income from R$30,639.90; who had income exempt or from exclusive taxation of more than R$200 thousand; who had gross revenue above R$153,199.50 in rural activities; that has assets and rights valued at more than R$800 thousand and that has stock exchange operations starting at R$40 thousand.
