Manaus (AM) – The show “Dois Irmãos”, based on the work of Milton Hatoum, entered the penultimate week of the season in Manaus. The Amazonian producer “Menina Miúda Produções Artísticas” signs the play, contemplated in the 2022 Funarte Theater Stimulation Award.

According to the director of the montage, Cairo Vasconcelos, the production has an exclusive setting and a unique soundtrack. “In the process of the show ‘Dois Irmãos’, we wanted to make everything original, bring innovation”, he emphasized.

“The soundtrack mixes Lebanese and Amazonian rhythms. It brings a sensitive, dramatic atmosphere with the charge that the piece deserves. The audience can only benefit from this show.”

Those who watched approved. Retired Raimundo Oliveira left impacted, remembering the “old Manaus”. “A piece that talks about our memories here in Manaus. I know the streets. I got to know the orphanage of Santa Izabel. Those memories come back, and we do a deep dive,” he said.

The play “Dois Irmãos” is based on the homonymous novel — of the same name — ‘Dois Irmãos’. In the work, Amazonian writer Milton Hatoum portrays the conflicts of a family in the midst of Manaus in the 20th century. At the center of the novel are the twins Yaqub and Omar, with a relationship marked by tension and rivalry.

After watching the show, administrator Beatriz Viana had new perceptions about the twins. “I felt anger and empathy for Omar at the same time,” she pointed out. She has also chosen her favorite character: “the narrator of the story, Nael”.

The novel “Dois Irmãos” has already been adapted for TV, in a Globo miniseries; in theatrical performance, by professionals from São Paulo; and in HQ (Story in Comics), by comic artists from São Paulo Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá.

A theater admirer, the writer from Amazonas supported the new adaptation and celebrated the staging in the capital of Amazonas. “Theatre has always accompanied me. Art is part of the formation of the individual’s spirit and morals. Without art, you run the risk of becoming stultified, insensitive”, emphasized Milton Hatoum.

First season

The first season of the play ‘Dois Irmãos’ is on display until May 26, 2023. All performances are held at Buia Teatro, located at Rua Dona Libânia, 300, Historic Center of Manaus, very close to Largo de São Sebastião .

The classification of the show is free for people over 16 years of age, and the sessions have Libras interpreters.

With online tickets sold out, to guarantee the in-person purchase, the spectator needs to arrive at Buia Teatro one hour in advance.

The theatrical show ‘Dois Irmãos’ competed for the announcement of the 2022 Funarte Theater Stimulus Award and received a score of 10 from the judges.

Menina Miúda Produções Artísticas is a theater production company from Amazonas. The group seeks to move the culture of the State and provide opportunities to local artists through training in the performing arts. Cairo Vasconcelos

Cairo Vasconcelos holds a degree in Theater from the State University of Amazonas (UEA). He is an actor and director. He has already circulated with street theater shows in Brazil, especially in cities in the North Region. He has experience in dance and performance, and has performed throughout the interior of Amazonas, with the Funarte Circulation Prize: Performance ‘Curuminzado’, by Souffle de Bodó Company. In 2019, he founded Menina Miúda Produções Artísticas and currently works as director and cultural producer.
