The exhibition featured children’s classics such as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Aladdin, as well as pop classics such as Roupa Nova and David Guetta.
Manaus (AM) – The Amazonas Education Institute (IEA), located on Rua Ramos Ferreira, in the center of Manaus, received the Amazonas Guitar Orchestra this Monday afternoon (11) for a special presentation to elementary and high school students. The action is part of the “Classical Music in Schools” project, which is carried out by the State Department of Culture and Creative Economy, in partnership with the State Department of Education and School Sports.
With the presence of the 7th year elementary school and 1st to 3rd high school classes, the orchestra performed in the school’s main hall. The exhibition featured children’s classics such as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Aladdin, as well as pop classics such as Roupa Nova and David Guetta.
The school manager, Ji Suk Guedes, highlighted how promoting students’ approach to musical art is important for their growth and that the school community was happy to be part of this type of experience.
“I think it is extremely important for students to have contact with this musical art and this initiation. It is clear and noticeable that they are interested in this type of (musical) attraction”,
explained the manager.
Taking music to schools
The Amazonas Guitar Orchestra, together with the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra, is part of the “Classical Music in Schools” project, which seeks to bring students from the state education network closer to music, especially classical music, through presentations in schools.
The orchestra’s assistant conductor, Neil Armstrong, said that it is always a pleasure to visit schools through the project and be able to bring a little art through the orchestra, into the school environment.
“It is always a great pleasure for the orchestra to visit schools in this partnership between the teaching units of the Department of Education and the artistic bodies of the SEC. It is fundamental, because we bring a little entertainment and a little art through our instruments”,
explained the conductor.
Musical tradition
The IEA has been seeking to stimulate culture, through musical arts, for some time, according to the manager. The Institution has an elective course in music, which currently has 40 students; which teaches guitar and singing, seeking to awaken students’ interest in the art of music.
The guitar teacher, Oséias Costa, reinforced how the presence of the orchestra at the school is important to inspire those who are already part of the music selection and to encourage those who are not yet to become interested in musical art.
“It’s been extraordinary for them to be here and the students are very excited. They are very happy and we believe that this will further spark the interest of other students to enroll in the elective, which is renewed every semester.”,
said the teacher.
One of the students enrolled in the elective is 3rd grade high school student, Alice Palheta, 17 years old. The student felt inspired by the presence of the orchestra, as music is something she greatly appreciates and has been part of her life since childhood.
“Professor Oséias teaches us how to play the guitar and I, as I had practiced playing in church since childhood. When they said that this orchestra would come, I was really interested because it is something that I am inspired by and appreciate”,
said the student.
