Project offers free programming course for low-income black and indigenous people

The program lasts 12 months and classes will be online, which allows young people from all over Brazil to apply

Registration is open until the 28th for the sixth class of “Programmers of Tomorrow”, a free programming, English and soft skills course. In total, 120 young people, men and women, will be selected, as long as they are black, mixed race and indigenous, aged 16 to 21 and low-income. The program lasts 12 months and classes will be online, which allows young people from all over Brazil to apply. During the course, selected students will undergo full stack programming training focused on JavaScript. In addition, three more modules will also be taught: English applied to the IT market — which will enable them to search for content in international forums and use foreign tools — soft skills and psychological support.

“Our goal is to expand opportunities for black and indigenous youth, providing a route to enter the technology market, an area often marked by inequalities. To give you an idea, 33% of tech companies do not have any black person on the technology team, and those that do, make up no more than 10% of the technology team in 68% of them”,

explains Cleber Guedes, CEO and co-founder of Programadores do Ajante, which has already selected more than 300 young people across the country, 60% of whom are already employed.

Simple and practical access

Classes are held live, via the Zoom platform. If the student does not have access to the internet and does not have a computer, he or she will receive a notebook and also financial assistance to pay for the internet. The learning methodology is project-based, with practical application. The student does not have a test, but must submit mini-projects throughout the course and an integrative project at the end of the training.

“The course acts as a bridge between dreams and reality, offering a path so that people who previously saw a career in IT as something distant can now follow a concrete path towards success”, says Guedes, who in this edition has the support from Méliuz, iFood and Instituto Localiza.

Employability

In addition to training, “Programadores do Ajante” also supports the insertion of students into the professional market, with priority participation in selection processes for bigtechs and prominent companies on the national scene. With this, it opened doors for these young people to join the teams of giants such as Keeggo, Localiza, BV, Itaú and Market Livre.

The average salary of students who went through the program is R$3,600, which represented an average increase in family income of 240%. “Our goal is to achieve 80% employability within six months after training and my big dream is that, in the future, it will not be necessary to carry out a selection process so that we can be truly accessible and that every young person who is interested can take the course”, he points out.
