Project “Jazz on the Floating” brings Orquestra de Beiradão do Amazonas as an attraction

The “Jazz on the Floating” project will have two free concerts by the Orquestra de Beiradão do Amazonas (OBA), on the Floating Abaré, located on Lake Tarumã, this Friday (14th), starting at 5pm.

The event is part of the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival program and has free admission, but it is necessary to pay the transfer of R$ 15, from the parking lot to the floating one.

Completing 10 years of career, OBA pays tribute with a jazz look to Beiradão, a typically Amazonian musical style, which had its peak in the 80s, through the dissemination of phonograms recorded by artists who represented this genre in the capital and inland from the Amazon.

The name Beiradão comes from the fact that the style was popularized in festivals held along rivers in the region.

The group is formed by 12 members, under the command of conductor and saxophonist Ênio Prieto. In 2017, they released their debut album, “Das Margens Urbanas”. In 2021, they presented the documentary “Orquestra de Beiradão do Amazonas – A Música de Beiradão” and the “Dialogue of Generations”, with their own compositions, in addition to reinterpretations of songs by Beiradão icons, such as the singer and saxophonist Teixeira de Manaus.

For the first edition of Jazz no Flutuante this year, the orchestra will launch the song “Rio Tarumã”. “I wrote a song called ‘Rio Tarumã’ in honor of the Jazz no Flutuante project, with a very Caribbean rhythm, which mixes a slower merengue with a zouk. We are going to release this song on Flutuante Abaré”, commented Ênio Prieto.

According to the maestro, there is great expectation for this year’s presentation at Jazz no Flutuante, with much demand from the public. The group will perform two shows, one at 5:30 pm and the other at 7 pm. In addition to this Friday’s edition, there will also be an edition on July 22 with musician Miquéias Fernandes and group; and, on July 28, with guitarist Aldenor Honorato and his quartet.
