Plane ticket at BRL 200: see how the program will be – 06/28/2023 – Market

The Voa Brasil Program, for the sale of airline tickets for up to R$ 200, will have an application in which the consumer can register and benefit from the lower amount. The measure should start in August, according to the Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França.

In an interview with Voz do Brasil on Tuesday night (27), the minister stated that the discount will be given to those who have not taken domestic flights in the last 12 months and detailed the program and negotiations in the sector.

The idea, according to him, is to expand the public to be served by the areas beyond those who already travel by plane habitually.

“We are going to create a new mechanism, which is an application, where you will enter your CPF and if you have not flown in the last 12 months, you write there: ‘I want to go from Brasília to Manaus’, then it will give you all the options, which is always for a single amount of BRL 200; BRL 200 one way and BRL 200 back.”

Voa Brasil’s target audience includes retirees, pensioners and students or people with incomes of up to R$6,800. The limit would be to prevent recurring users of commercial flights from using the program and compromising the companies’ sales.

In the interview, the minister stated that the intention is to encourage new people to fly. According to him, airlines end up raising ticket prices, trying to get the most out of those who fly regularly. The reason is that, as the airlift public ends up being the same, there is no expansion of the business, increasing sustainability.

“Companies end up raising prices trying to get the most out of those who already fly. And this is a mistake, because you keep running the same thing on the same people”, he said.

França explained that the program is a response to a request from President Lula, who asked him to bring low-cost airlines to the country, with low-cost flights. Before, however, the minister sought out the largest companies in the country to propose the program, as a way of encouraging business and maintaining the approximately 15,000 current jobs at these companies.

“President Lula asked me to bring here to Brazil what we call low cost, which are companies that fly cheaper, and we are bringing them. They will arrive this year here in Brazil. the three companies that make in Brazil, which have 10, 15 thousand employees”, he said.

“Look, we’re going to bring low cost, don’t you want to take advantage and make a cheaper price for you before they arrive?”, was what the minister claimed to have told the companies. “When they arrive, they come smashing it, they do it at a much cheaper price. And they [empresas do Brasil] agreed”, he said, about the negotiation with Brazilian airlines.

In March of this year, França stated that, according to its calculations, it would be possible to offer 14 million to 15 million tickets for R$ 200 per year. The government still intends to offer installments in 12 interest-free installments to boost the program.

The program aims to sell the vacant seats on flights that cannot occupy the entire aircraft, generating an idle supply demand. In the months from March to November, it is estimated that approximately 21% of the seats are not occupied, informed the minister.

According to França, the current business model of airlines is wrong because it increases the cost of travel with tariffs and additional services and prevents new users from having access to the modality.

The three main Brazilian airlines —Latam, Gol and Azul— have already agreed to participate in the ticket reduction program, according to the minister.
