Eight search and seizure warrants were served in the states of São Paulo and Paraíba, this Thursday morning (16), against a company suspected of handling approximately R$ 1.5 billion in crypto assets in the last four years.

Operation Halving, by the Federal Police in partnership with the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, investigates suspected crimes against the financial system and the capital market by the company’s partners, who moved crypto assets in accounts linked to them. The details of the transactions were not disclosed.

The warrants were served in the cities of São Paulo, João Pessoa and Campina Grande (PB). There were also two requests for preventive detention that were not fulfilled, according to the PF.

The prosecution also ordered the seizure of the suspects’ assets and the partial suspension of the company’s activities.

According to the PF, the name of the operation is an “allusion to the increase in the difficulty of mining bitcoin, which occurs every four years, a period similar to the rise and fall of the investigated scheme”.
