Minister Renan Filho (Transportes) took to the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, a concern that has circulated in the sector in recent weeks: the fear of lack of asphalt for the announced investment of R$ 1.7 billion made by the Lula government to road works.
In a meeting this Thursday (16th), according to Petrobras, the president of the state-owned company told the minister that the requests from customers for asphalt have been met and that the company is prepared to supply the demand for the input.
Given this scenario, the idea is to create a working group among technicians from Petrobras, the ministry and the DNIT (National Department of Transport Infrastructure) to map the national demand for the product.
According to Petrobras, the state-owned company’s asphalt sales were up 22% last year compared to 2021.
Amid conversations about the risk of asphalt shortages, the sector cites alternatives such as encouraging the import of the product or increasing the use of concrete in paving.
