The State Department of Finance of Amazonas (Sefaz) announced this Thursday (21), the adoption of the payment method via PIX, from the Central Bank, for the collection of state taxes, including those already registered in active debt.

The use of the payment method aims to facilitate taxpayers’ compliance with tax obligations and provide savings to public coffers, as PIX has a cost per operation that is on average four times lower than that of payments by barcode. In total, savings of around R$2.5 million are expected in four years.

“This modality gives the taxpayer many more options to make the payment. There are more than 800 institutions and payment occurs in real time, and this means that the taxpayer has the debt downloaded instantly”, said Finance Secretary Alex del Giglio, at a press conference at Sefaz headquarters.

“It is important to emphasize that there is an economy, a gain in scale for the public coffers, since today, in bar code operations, around R$1 per operation is paid. Whereas, through PIX, this cost drops to around R$0.25 cents. So it is quite advantageous, both from the point of view of the taxpayer, the citizen, and from the point of view of the tax authorities”, added the secretary.

The head of the Collection Department (Dearc), Anny Karolliny Coelho, also commented on the advantages of incorporating PIX to pay taxes for both the taxpayer and the public administration.

“By joining the PIX modality, the state wins and the population wins. When paying via PIX, your tax outstandings are immediately written off. The taxpayer will be able to instantly clear their bills and in the case of IPVA, there will be permission to license the vehicle, in addition to the savings it will generate for the State”, explained Anny.

The head of the Information Technology Department (Detin) at Sefaz, Rodrigo Albuquerque, made a warning and an important recommendation for taxpayers who choose this form of payment.

“The main recommendation is to always check whether the website you are accessing to issue the payment guide has the real address of the Treasury Department (and when paying via PIX you must verify that the creditor is the ‘Government of the State of Amazonas ‘”, advised Albuquerque when recommending that you avoid clicking on links sent by email or SMS.
