Parintins Festival: fans of Caprichoso and Garantido describe feelings for bumbás

Parintins (AM) – At the Parintins Folklore Festival (369 kilometers from Manaus), when Caprichoso and Garantido enter the arena and the timer starts counting down, everything counts, including the crowd, item 19, which is part of the show and has a direct influence on the final result after the three nights of performances. But this love is not only demonstrated in June, in the stands of the Bumbódromo, the feeling lasts throughout the year, a lifetime. And the first step is to be chosen by one of the bumbás.

To know how this happens, you need to know all the magic that surrounds the Tupinambarana Island spectacle. Last year, the 56th Parintins Festival, promoted by the Government of Amazonas, attracted 110 thousand tourists, according to data from the State Tourism Company (Amazonastur).

Within the historical context of the Festival, it is natural that some fans have already chosen one of the oxen to support, this happens mainly when the passion passes from generation to generation. But most of the time, love appears after the first contact with Caprichoso or Garantido in Parintins, it is at this moment that the bumbás take the opportunity to capture the heart of yet another fan, whether to be part of the blue or red crowd.

Nilta Morais’ family knows this feeling well, the house in the Japiim neighborhood, south of Manaus, decorated all in blue is a proof of love for the Black Bull, which is in the center of the room, to prove that everyone there is a blue fan. .

Smiling next to the ox-bumbá, Ms. Nilta Morais explains how she was chosen by Caprichoso. It all started on the first trip to Parintins with her husband, in 1990. The two went without choosing a side, but were swept away, as they like to say, by Caprichoso.

“The songs caught my attention. It was that ‘tcham’ and that’s it, he became my love, the Black Bull of America. Seeing him dancing, from one side to the other, bringing that energy. It’s a love without explanation and only those who are Caprichoso know”, said fan, Nilda Morais.

All this passion was passed on to the next generation. Over time, the three children began to accompany their parents, every year, on the trip to Tupinambarana Island. The middle son, Vitorhugo Morais, grew up in this passionate and blue environment and, at the age of 18, decided that he wanted not only to be a fan, but to be part of the Marujada de Guerra do boi Caprichoso and contribute within the Bumbódromo.

“I had the dream of joining Marujada de Guerra as a percussionist and I had the privilege of being able to join in 2004. By a chance of fate, I was invited to be the master of Marujada, in 2010, and I am still working hard to this day. to the Opposite (Guaranteed)”, said, good-naturedly, fan Vitorhugo Morais.

To win over new fans, the family has the habit of giving a glimpse of what it means to be item 19 at the Parintins Festival. In the living room, with the drum of the master of Marujada de Guerra, the family almost always chooses the tune “Pode Avisar”, sung in the voices of tune-setter Patrick Araújo and presenter Edmundo Oran and then everything becomes a party.

A few kilometers from Dona Nilta’s house, in the Parque 10 neighborhood, in the center-south zone of Manaus, lives the Holanda family and an illustrious resident, the boi-bumbá Garantido, champion of 2013, the year of the Centenary. The family matriarch, Maria de Lourdes, 83 years old, is responsible for taking care of the bull of the heart.

The perreché’s passion for the red and white ox was born in the 2000s, when she went to a rehearsal in Manaus. Excited, she remembers that the drum roll and the traditional count won her heart that day.

“There was no way around it, I looked at it (Boi Garantido), I liked it and I still have it today. It’s my greatest joy. I really like this bull, the movement, the culture he brings. It’s crazy,” said fan Maria de Lourdes.

The famous popular saying “A mother’s heart always has room for one more” also applies to the Holanda family home. At first, only the family matriarch was Guaranteed, but the daughters ended up surrendering to the ox-bumbá with their hearts on their foreheads. Just like her mother, Ana Holanda also cannot hold back her tears when explaining how the ox chose her.

“It’s that old story that we don’t choose the ox, it chooses us. When I went to Parintins, for the first time, and saw the Garantido ox come out of that red heart, inside the Bumbódromo, I said: that’s my ox. When we shout the count, you can’t help but fall in love and cry. For anyone coming (to Amazonas) for the first time, come with an open soul”, said the perreché, Ana Holanda.

Sitting amidst the red cushions in the living room, the Holanda family sings the song “Vermelho”, from 1996, which represents the perreché nation and was immortalized in the voices of Fafá de Belém and David Assayag.
