‘Parentas que Fazem’ announces five projects approved for financing of R$ 250 thousand

Manaus (AM) – The Sustainable Amazon Foundation (FAS) released the name of the projects selected for financing through the call “Parentas que Fazem”, which aims to support the promotion of entrepreneurship among indigenous women in Amazonas. Each of the selected proposals will receive an investment of R$250,000 for execution within 12 months. The result can be accessed at

The project is an initiative by FAS with support from Google.org, Google’s philanthropic institution, and in partnership with the Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon (Coiab) and Makira-E’ta – Network of Indigenous Women of Amazonas.

Five proposals from associations of indigenous women in Amazonas were selected. In addition to financial support, each selected project will receive entrepreneurial initiation services, technical advice and management training.

“It was a very interesting process, we even had proposals from other states. But now that we have the five proposals approved and we are going to start activities with the organizations, we are ready to start and what’s more, we will also have training for the first ten classified proposals. We’ve been waiting for this opportunity for some time, now let’s go”,

said FAS Indigenous Agenda supervisor, Rosa dos Anjos.

The projects approved for financing were:

• 1) Empowerment and Entrepreneurship of Indigenous Women of Médio Solimões – Association of Indigenous Women of Médio Solimões and Affluents (Aminsa) – Tefé (AM).

• 2) Kuyã Ukuasará Murakí Tucú Irumu – Association of Indigenous Women of Alto Rio Negro (AMIARN) – São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM).

• 3) AMARN’s Ancient Knowledge: Braiding, Art and Graphics “Ohpekõ Diâ Mahsa Numiã – Mumiã Kura – AMARN – Manaus (AM).

• 4) Oniamangaru’i Oniwasab’i – Project to promote the regeneration and protection of species and native vegetation: an example of collective sustainable action by women Sateré Mawé – Sateré Mawé Indigenous Women’s Association (AMISM) – Manaus (AM).

• 5) Rescuing the past to weave futures: generating income and cultural appreciation from the crafts of indigenous women in São Gabriel da Cachoeira – Associação dos Artesãos Indígenas de São Gabriel da Cachoeira (ASSAI) – São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM).

“It is part of Coiab’s activities to support and coordinate initiatives for the indigenous economy. Parentas que Fazem arrives to value the work of indigenous women, with entrepreneurial initiation, technical advice and management training, in addition to financial support, which is often what is needed to boost, structure and expand the work of collectives in Amazonas” ,

Now, those selected will have 15 days to present the necessary documentation to conclude the contract with FAS, as established in the notice.

In addition to the first five organizations classified and able to receive financial resources, another ten classified will subsequently benefit from training in entrepreneurial initiation.
