Paranaense is awarded at the 13th Brazilian Sparkling Wine Competition

After blindly analyzing 505 samples from 93 wineries in eight Brazilian states for 12 hours, the jury of the 13th Brazilian Sparkling Wine Competition chose, between the 27th and 28th of September, the best Brazilian sparkling wines of 2023.

In total, 172 sparkling wines were awarded – 13 with Grand Gold Medals, 153 with Gold and six with Outstanding Gold. That’s right, in this edition, there was no silver or bronze, as all the laureates achieved scores higher than 90.

In addition to the high level of sparkling wines, this year’s competition recognized the quality of labels beyond the traditional borders of Rio Grande do Sul. In an unprecedented way at the event, sparkling wines from wineries in Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, São Paulo and Paraná also received gold medals.

House gold

From Colônia Murici, in São José dos Pinhais, Vinícola Araucária from Paraná won a Gold medal for the Poty Lazzarotto Espumante Brut. Intense, with a ripe fruit flavor, creamy foam and refreshing acidity, the sparkling wine with a label that pays homage to one of the most important visual artists in Paraná, has already accumulated a series of national and international awards.

Natural sparkling wines that are for sale on the market, coming from vitis vinifera grapes, obtained from different methods, took part in the competition, categories: second fermentation sparkling wines (Charmat and Traditional) and first fermentation sparkling wines (Moscatels).

Following the format of the previous edition, the 13th Brazilian Sparkling Wine Competition also granted a special distinction to sparkling wines that stood out in their categories. To this end, at the end of the competition, a tasting was carried out, preferably blind, among the products that won the Gold Medal and best averages, in order to highlight the judges’ preferences. Six sparkling wines, one from each category, received the Golden Saber.
