The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), said this Tuesday (20) that the approval of lawyer Cristiano Zanin for the Federal Supreme Court (STF) is “well underway”. The Senate must vote on the nomination this Wednesday (21), first in the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) and then in the plenary.
“The expectation is well underway. We will wait for the Saturday at the CCJ, it is decisive and preponderant. We take the afternoon to the Plenary”, said Pacheco, informed the Senado Agency.
Zanin was nominated by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), at the beginning of the month, to fill the vacancy that was occupied by Minister Ricardo Lewandowski. The CCJ meets from 10:00 am for the Zanin sabbath. The rapporteur for the nomination is Senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB).
In addition to Zanin’s nomination, Pacheco said that the plenary will also vote on the new fiscal framework (PLP 93/2023) this Wednesday, provided that the Economic Affairs Commission (CAE) completes the analysis of the project. The CAE granted a collective view to the senators this Tuesday, after the presentation of the report by Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM). The committee meets at 8:30 am Wednesday for the final vote.
The president of the Senate rejected the possibility of postponing the vote on the fiscal framework in plenary to next week or even to Thursday (22). For Pacheco, it is important to take advantage of this Wednesday’s quorum.
