The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), removed from the agenda this Wednesday (5) the draft legislative decree (PDL 98/2023) that suspends excerpts from the decrees of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) that regulate the Basic Sanitation Legal Framework.
Pacheco made the decision after listening to the arguments of the leader of the government, Senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), who announced that he had taken to the Civil House a proposal to withdraw the decrees in order to avoid invasion of legislative competence. He said he hopes the issue will be resolved this Thursday (6), at a meeting of leaders, reported Agência Senado.
“The government will find a way out. Otherwise, even before the vote on the PDL, the government will withdraw the decrees,” said Wagner. Pacheco declared that, in the absence of a solution by the leaders, the PDL would return to the Senate’s agenda as the first item for voting on Tuesday (11), but warned that until the parliamentary recess there should be a solution to the issue.
“In this way, I think we have reconciled all interests. The Executive Branch is given time to make an assessment”, emphasized the President of the Senate. This Tuesday (4), the PDL rapporteur, Senator Confúcio Moura (MDB-RO), had also signaled the possibility of asking for the removal of the matter from this Wednesday’s agenda to help the government build an agreement that avoids the likely defeat in plenary.
