Ophthalmologist in Manaus warns of eye health care

In Brazil, 6.5 million people have some type of visual impairment
Manaus (AM) – The World Health Organization (WHO) released data indicating that 2.2 billion people have some type of eye problem. Of these cases, about a billion could be prevented or treated.
According to Swammy Mitozo, ophthalmologist, the eyes are complex organs for human health.
“Therefore, the importance of adopting healthy habits that prevent the various diseases that can be very harmful to the eyes”,
said Swammy.
Still according to the WHO, in Brazil, the estimate is that 6.5 million people have some type of visual impairment and 1.6 million are completely blind.
According to Dr. Swammy, July 10 was established as World Eye Health Day, with the aim of drawing attention to the prevention and early diagnosis of eye diseases. “The initiative reinforces the importance of periodic visits to the ophthalmologist to check the health of the eyes”, highlighted the ophthalmologist.
For Dr Swammy, the main eye diseases are caused by myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia, in addition to cataracts, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma.
“Overexposure of the eyes to screens also worsens vision. People blink less while using electronic devices, which over time can lead to degenerative injuries and fatigue,”
explained the ophthalmologist.
Prevention
The ophthalmologist recommends that people have ophthalmological consultations from childhood and into adulthood, between 30 and 40 years old
People with a family history of eye disease should have periodic exams throughout their lives.
“Avoid scratching your eyes and using counterfeit glasses, these are simple measures that should prevent eye diseases”,
